FINALS

Coming into finals week could not be more stressful, and to top it off, it is freezing outside. There is a fresh batch of snow, and because im leaving for Brazil i didn't get a season pass which puts me in a terrible mood. I can't handle not snowboarding. Im kinda freaking out inside. I think that everything will be great once finals are over, but then i think "i still haven't found an apartment, or bought my flight, and i dont know how much scrills the HIP is giving me". So thats my ranting and venting. These are a few pictures that i did for my photo final, in the composition section. I guess i am going to the zuriick sample sale now, which should be great. Then back to the lib for more hours of studying. But, here in a month i will be strutting on Copacabana Beach in a man-thong, so thats something great to look forward to.

I just finished my final photo project, which was actually more stressful than i thought it would be. This section was actually the most difficult which was imitating another photographer. I chose to imitate Jeff Wall, but only in one of his strategies, which is to create an image after a phrase, poem, story, etc. So i chose song lyrics or titles. kinda cheesy but whatever. you're lame too.

"blue lips" -Regina Spektor. Thanks Ginger

"there's a lightbulb dangling from string" from the song "insomnia" -electric president
"scattered pearls" -casiotone for the painfully alone
"I drink good coffee, every morning" from the song "i just don't think i'll ever get over you" -Colin Hay

Leprechaun Shoes

I went downtown yesterday to take pictures with some of those who spend their nights on the streets on SLC. This is actually something i have been wanting to do for a few years, but i kept getting scared. Even when i was walking around the homeless shelter, it took me a little to work up the courage to talk to some people. What is interesting is that we look at the homeless as such aliens, but i was so surprised at how articulate and real they were. The first guy i shot, Jim, was very quiet. Whereas i was talking to Craig and his friends for about 20 mins before i even started shooting. It was interesting to try to understand a little bit of how the world looks through their eyes. I found it a very rewarding experience and plan on doing it again. I was wearing these bright green vans, and these guys kept giving me crap for them. One guy was like "you aint gettin nowhere with those leprechaun shoes".

maybe los angeles

I was in LA this past week for work, which was exhausting. Working 12 hours during the day just to go back to the hotel to write papers and finish quizzes. I liked it though. Fortunately i had a little time to walk around and shoot a little bit. Wednesday night i roamed into a parking garage and asked a latino with a tear drop tattoo if it was cool if i shot in there. He was cool with it, but i was even more scared of the groups of thugs chillin in there. Yesterday on the way to the airport i noticed that there is like a whole block covered in graffiti like a block away from the convention center where i was working. Soooo bummed. Oh well.
staples center and my hotel
me and this kid i work with decided we were going to turn this building into a techno dance club called "unce unce"

uncomfortable?

This was for a recent contrast assignment i did. I really like the first two, of the underpass and the tunnel thing. The third i actually find, as my teacher put it, uncomfortable. I dont know what compelled me to make this picture, because i cropped it, knowing that it didnt look right. If feels all bundled and tight. weird. I met with my teacher and she was talking to me about my professional aspirations in photography, to which i replied i have none. Just for fun. She was trying to talk me into it, but i think ill just keep it as my escape hobby. It did make me feel cool though haha.

I like the flow of this one with the light street amidst dark pillars, and how the little sign on the right keeps your eyes from wandering off the page.
I really like the rhythm of this image in the lights and darks, and the diagonal lines that seem to meet up. The signs also play into it very well.
Yeah, this is just uncomfortable. i think it pretty different than most of my stuff and that may be the reason i did it. Something different, even though strange or weird, can be a breath of fresh air sometimes.

Slow Train

So my friend Dave has a music/fashion blog that i do the photo stuff for. This past week we went to slowtrain. I was stoked on that place. You should check out his blog . I grabbed these photos outside on the way to his car. I love graffiti. its nostalgic. I just wish there was more in Salt Lake, but there are too many people who are terrible at it, and thats way worse.

insomnia

Well, i need to be sleeping right now, but i can't seem to get there. So, here are some older photos that i decided to edit. I don't think i will ever stop loving city scenes. The lines and structure is so interesting to me. Im going to LA later this week for work, missing the sounds concert which i can't even describe my sorrow, but hopefully i can take some fun shots there. Talk about coincidence, the song "insomnia" by electric president just played on my playlist.

I like this one

Libs

I forgot about these pictures i took around the beginning of the summer. I just edited them and im pretty stoked on them. I also had an architectural photo assignment due today, so im stoked i found them. Plus with this swift change of weather i dont really want to be wandering around downtown shooting, when i should be at the lib studying, or looking at fbook when im supposed to be studying. I have to factor in my fbook time when i study. Pathetic.

I really like how the shadows play off the the walls and pillars. neat and stuff

yeah like reflections are like cool and stuff and when the stuff like leads your eyes to the reflection center thats like cool and whatever.

7th

Yeah just a few more long shutter shots, with one of the boston building. I love that building, just looks classy. The ones with the fire hydrant are on 7th east, which i have driven on almost everyday for like 4 years on my way to work and i finally decided to stop and shoot one night. Also the other day i went with Dave to take pictures of Fice, because he was doing a review for that shop. He does a good job and stuff, i liked some of the photos so you should hit up his blog to see them.

Flowriding

Last week Sam, Chase and I cruised up to Ogden to hit up the flowrider. Chase and Sam were killin it. It made me hate Chase even more because he is just good at everything. I think i could just sit there all day and watch people eat it on that thing. People were just getting worked. We decided to make it a weekly tradition.

long shutters

I remember i was having like an uber crappy night so i went and took these, so i guess something good did come of that night. I got pretty stoked on long exposure stuff and stuff and other things and such as...
